Phil Gray

Philip J. Gray

Born in England in 1948, Philip emigrated to Australia in 1970.

He now lives in Sunbury, Victoria.

The artist is known mostly for his maritime studies which usually are done in gouache, but sometimes in oil paint. His early maritime works are studies of emigrant ships from the 19th century which visited Port Phillip. These paintings are quite detailed.

Later works are much more free, trying more to focus on the dynamics of the sea itself.

Some of his works are held in the Latrobe Collection of the State Library of Victoria.

He has works in private collections both here and overseas, and several works released as limited edition prints.
